How is recycling done?
Plastic waste arriving at the facility is sorted by type, then washed, broken down into small pieces in crushers, dried and melted. The molten plastic is passed through a filter and cut into granules, which are reused in the production of items such as pipes, membranes and bags.
The seven plastic classes
- PET (1) — common in water bottles and packaging; one of the easiest types to recycle
- HDPE (2) — milk and detergent containers; easily recycled
- PVC (3) — pipes and toys; difficult to recycle
- LDPE (4) — storage containers and shopping bags; recyclable
- PP (5) — heat-resistant containers and cups; residues need to be cleaned off
- PS (6) — foam and single-use products; requires a dedicated process
- Other (7) — other mixed plastics; mostly non-recyclable
