Melt Diverter

A diverter valve that controls the melt flow in the extrusion line; by routing the flow to either the die or the drain, it makes commissioning and filter changes easier.

What is a melt diverter and what is it used for?

During the commissioning of the extrusion line, or while intervening on the screen/die, melt that has not yet reached the desired quality should not flow directly to the die. In these situations the melt diverter (diverter valve) routes the melt flow toward the drain, and once production is stable, toward the die / pellet-cutting direction.

How does it work?

The pin inside the body is positioned by a hydraulic piston, selecting the flow path. This prevents start-up waste from entering the system and ensures a safe, controlled commissioning of the line. Thanks to its compact design, it integrates easily between the extruder and the melt filter / pellet-cutting stage.

Position in the line

It is generally located at the extruder outlet and works together with the melt filter and pellet-cutting units.

Frequently Asked Questions

About this page

What is a diverter valve used for?
It directs the melt flow to either the die or the drain; it is especially useful during commissioning and filter changes to prevent start-up waste from entering the system.
How is it controlled?
The flow path is selected by changing the position of the pin with a hydraulic piston.
Which unit does it work with?
It works in harmony with the extruder, melt filter and pellet-cutting units.
