A star screen consists of parallel rotating shafts fitted with star-shaped discs. Large, bulky items are carried forward over the discs, while small items fall through the gaps between the discs to the bottom. Thanks to the flexible discs, it resists wrapping and clogging.
The star screen separates coarse and fine fractions by size at the pre-sorting stage. Together with the ballistic separator and the zig-zag separator, it organizes the material flow ahead of crushing and washing.
