The main stages of rPET production

The path from waste PET to clean flake or granule consists of complementary stages:

  • Bale opening and pre-sorting: Pressed bales are opened; labels, caps and foreign materials are separated out.
  • Size reduction (crushing): Bottles are brought down to a uniform flake size.
  • Hot washing and friction: Adhesive, oil and label residues are removed using hot water and friction.
  • Separation by sink-float: Taking advantage of the density difference, PET is separated from materials such as caps (PP/PE).
  • Drying: The moisture content of the flake is brought down to a level suitable for processing.

Each of these steps directly affects the cleanliness of the final flake and therefore the quality of the rPET. The process is engineered according to the source of the material and the target application.
