What is a double-shaft shredder?

A double-shaft shredder breaks down material by tearing and cutting it with blades mounted on two counter-rotating shafts. Because it runs at low speed and very high torque, it handles the bulkiest and toughest inputs — drums, barrels, bales, pallets, big-bags, pipe and large blocks — without jamming. It usually runs without a screen and produces a coarse output; for this reason it is most often used for pre-shredding (the first stage).

When is a double-shaft shredder preferred?
